My name is Marcus Colon and I’m a senior here at Loughlin. Other than learning , I do a lot of
things here, I do things like Latino dance, being a house executive, and being a part of Lasallian
Youth which I’m Vice President of. Lasallian Youth is a group of about 25 or more students here
at Loughlin and we meet every Thursday morning to have discussions and do ice breakers. The
things we do are based on three words which originated from Saint John Baptist De La Salle
and they are faith, service and community. For example, for faith we do prayer services, for
community we have trips and activities that help us get to know each other better and for
service we go out to the community to help those who are in need. Before I joined Lasallian
Youth, I didn’t pay any attention to it. I always ignored the promotions for it until one day I showed up
and saw how much fun it was. I then began to get involved with the retreats and service
opportunities and I made new friends from that. I’m glad that I joined Lasallian Youth because it
has made me a better person and has brought many great people into my life. Lasallian Youth
is important because it welcomes everyone and helps build a community in Loughlin and also
helps build a community in the outside world.
On Thursday, February 28th we had record attendance at a highly successful 2nd Annual CPR Showdown!
85 students competed (nearly double from last year) and over 100 attended the event. The Science Department created the event last year thanks to a generous contribution from alumnus, Don Judge ’62. “I am proud of how well the CPR skills were performed, as shown by the results” said Mr. Orlando Santiago, Science Department Chair. “I am also very proud of the number of competitors this year. We may have to find more space next year.”
The final results:
1st Place (87.7%)- Augustine; 2nd Place (83.9%)- Miguel; 3rd Place (80.2%)- LaSalle; 4th Place (78.9%)- Bonilla; 5th Place (74.5%)- McDonnell; 6th Place (74.4%)- Bonventre
Top Competitors: 1st Place (100%)- Meddy Andre; 2nd Place (99.5%)- Tavien Jackson; 3rd Place (99% 4-Way Tie)- Jahbin Bazin, Tahj Tucker, Justin Fonrose & Danny Lorenzo

This year our Lasallian community marks its 300th anniversary of our Lasallian heritage (1719 - 2019) with a number of events around the globe.
One of those events was the World Congress of Lasallian Education which took place on March 14-16, 2019, at Universidad La Salle in Mexico City, Mexico. Themed “Lasallian Education for the 21st Century,” the event was attended by Bishop Loughlin's Theology Department's Beverley Madar.
The international program was aimed at Lasallian educators from all levels of academia and attended by representatives from 27 countries.
The conference's intent was to discuss what it means to be a Lasallian institution today, faithful to the charism of Saint John Baptist de la Salle, and responding to the challenges of the people of the twentieth century.
79 Loughlin students were recently inducted into the National Honors Society on October 18, 2018.
These students meet a high bar and selection is based on four criteria: scholarship (academic achievement), leadership, service, and character.
This is the largest proportion of students inducted in our proud history.
Lion pride!
Four Loughlin students who receive scholarships made possible by Joe Perez ‘70, Senior VP at Goya Foods, visited Goya corporate headquarters in NJ on Wednesday, October 24th. These students along with Bro. Dennis Cronin, President, and Andrew Leary, Marketing and Campaign Director, met with a number of Goya staff who shared advice and experiences with the students.
Mr. Perez is a member of our Board of Governors and has been a pillar of support for many students through the years. We also recognize Goya Foods for their support of our scholars.
We are grateful to the many alum from all three schools who make scholarships and aid possible for our hard working students.
On Friday, 10/26, Honors Chemistry students attended Chemistry Day at Brooklyn College in honor of National Chemistry Week. Accompanied by their teacher Ms. Rodriguez (as well as Mrs. Jason, Ms. Baduy & Mr. Taylor), the students viewed dynamic chemistry demonstrations, toured the advanced research labs on the campus and spoke with actual research scientists.
On Thursday Nov 15th , Loughlin Alum Dr. Rob Gore '95 gave an inspiring speech for our Biomed ceremony. You can tell that he really cares for the future of our students and the for youth in general. For all of his extensive humanitarian work, he is currently nominated for the CNN Hero of the Year (out of 10 international finalists). You can vote 10 times a day per email/facebook acct (which is tedious, but part of the challenge). The CNN video reel is also on the 2nd link. Feel free to share the link and encourage others!

Running 26.1 miles is one kind of challenge. Playing an instrument for three hours straight is another. But every year, for 40 years in a row, that’s what band director Louis Maffei and his students have done—play the “Rocky” theme song over 70 times consecutively for the runners in the New York City Marathon.
